The Office of the Washington State Auditor uses artificial intelligence (AI) tools in limited, carefully governed ways to support our work on behalf of the public. When we use AI, we do so responsibly and with human oversight at every step.
Our Office follows Washington state government’s laws, principles and policies for the ethical and purposeful use of AI. Our internal policies require that AI tools be secure, risk-assessed, and used only for approved purposes that enhance but not replace human judgment. Staff must review, verify and take responsibility for all work produced with assistance from AI.
As this technology evolves, we will continue to apply strong governance and oversight through our AI Oversight Committee, update our practices as needed, and remain transparent about how AI supports our mission of promoting accountability and transparency in government.
