Auditor's Office was well represented at regional auditing conference

The Pacific Northwest Intergovernmental Audit Forum (PNIAF) held its annual training March 15-16 in Victoria, B.C. Auditors came from state, local, federal and provincial audit agencies, representing Washington, Oregon, California and British Columbia. The weather was beautiful and we had a great agenda.
This training attracted 122 attendees. Our Office had a great showing with 27 attendees. Other attendees from Washington included seven auditors from the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, nine from the Department of Transportation and five from King County. There were also several attendees from the federal offices in Seattle representing the Government Accountability Office and the Office of Inspector General.
The first session, Auditing in a Changing Environment, involved perhaps the most prestigious panel in PNIAF history with three elected or appointed Auditors. This included Dennis Richardson, Secretary of State in Oregon, Carol Bellringer, Auditor General in British Columbia, and our very own Pat McCarthy.
Our Office also presented three training sessions:
- Tom Furgeson and Jenna Noll presented on our marijuana performance audits.
- Joe Clark and Ryan Thedy presented on our cybersecurity performance audits (moderated by Michael Huynh).
- Laura Cameron and John Hagemann presented on creative ways to package audit reports (moderated by Jolene Stanislowski).
Our presenters did a great job representing the Office of the Washington State Auditor.
In addition to our presenters and moderators, several Auditor's Office employees serve in leadership roles for PNIAF. These include Lou Adams, Assistant Director for Performance Audit, who serves on the Executive Committee. Scott Frank will take Lou's place on this committee when she retires at the beginning of June. Performance auditors Jolene Stanislowski and Michael Huynh serve on PNIAF's Program Committee.
