Earlier this week, State Auditor Pat McCarthy recognized the King County Water District No. 125 for their commitment to making government work better and promoting a culture of accountability with a State Auditor's Office Stewardship Award.
The District's commitment to a professional and collaborative working relationship with our auditors deserves commendation. Our Office greatly appreciates the District's transparent and open communication style as well as its receptiveness when addressing audit recommendations. In fact, it is common for the General Manager, Shane Young, to already have corrective action proposals ready to discuss with the Commissioners during our exit conference.
The General Manager also gives an annual presentation to the Board of Commissioners on internal controls for daily activities, incorporating all staff. He, together with District staff, work with our auditors to ensure an efficient audit process and provide timely responses to our inquiries. Documentation is consistently organized and well supported.
District management and staff clearly work hard to be accountable to the public as well and it's Board, and to be good stewards of public funds. They understand the value of the audits our Office provides.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication to all Washingtonians. Congratulations!
